How to WORK with a C personality type...

· Get right down to business. Present the facts. Focus on the issue.
· Involve them in defining standards and developing procedures.
· Ask their opinions. Wait for them to answer. Listen.
· Involve them in long term planning.
· Respect their personal limits.
· Train them in people skills and negotiating.

What NOT to do around a C personality type...

· Pop changes on them.
· Ask them to take on multiple projects at one time.
· Spend time on their feelings or ask them how they're really doing.
· Expect them to cope well with change.

Some thoughts.....

Without realizing it, time flies quietly & unknowingly ....

I have started this bazi sharing blog since 1 October 2009 with the title 'What is Bazi?'.   And today (31 March 2010) its marks the HALF year milestone.

Bazi (or any other destiny decoding technique such as Zi Wei Astrology) has its origin from China. It is an oriental approach of studying human behaviours &, in more modern terminology, personality.

And we all know that Personality affects our decision making process &, in turn, influences the outcome (i.e. 'destiny' in the language of bazi).

So, KNOW yourselves (知命), ACCEPT yourselves (both the strengths and weaknesses) (认命) & you should be able to IMPROVE yourselves (造命).

Bazi (or destiny analysis) an effective tools & wisdom in getting to know ourselves.

Some of my close friends asked & questioned me on the rationale of creating and sharing this 'FREE' blog.

It is nothing else, but PASSION!

My initial goal & intention is to share with bazi enthusiasts & the general public on this fascinating ancient arts and science.

Besides sharing & promoting, it is also part of my objectives to clear some of the misconceptions general laymen or bazi enthusiasts might have.  By saying so, it doesn't imply that the information stated & provided here is 'definitely' correct.   Its only expresses my understanding (of this subject) to the best of my knowledge.  All are welcome to furnish alternate views or different perspectives for my personal growth :)

The readers of this blog comes from all walk of life.  I sincerely & eagerly wish that more would share & contribute your views :)

Last but not least :-

Case Study on 'C' Personality Type - Proper Authority

Do you know that there are approximately 52 thousands bazi configurations :)   It is extremely rare for us to have an opportunity to read the same set of bazi for different individuals.

By chance, I got a chance to read the same set of bazi for 2 different individuals, except that one is female & the other is a male.

Below is the chart :-

        DM    PA       PA
X 癸 癸
X 辰 丑

where PA = Proper Authority Deity (正官)

Based on what I have shared on the characteristics of the 'C' Personality, you may want to apply it to the above chart.   Better still, give recommendation(s), if any, to the DM.

Bazi & The Theory of Personality
The 'C' Personality Types of The DISC Behavioral Model (Part 05)

As we have learned that at their worst, the 'C' Personality Type (i.e. Proper Authority Deity) can be a nit picker, a hoarder, an automaton. The question that follow is "How can we be our best?"

To be your best...

· Become more open to other people's ways of thinking and communicating.
· Learn when it is appropriate to settle for good enough.
· Gain perspective on the consequences of being wrong.
· Know that you don't have to know everything before voicing an opinion or making a decision.

Cultivate acceptance. Become more assertive.

At their best, individuals with the 'C' Personality Types (Proper Authority deity) can.....

· Be fair and objective, not letting feelings or personal biases get in the way of doing the right thing.
· Ask the right questions.
· Maintain high standards in spite of pressures to compromise values or the quality of work.

They can be a clear thinker, an analyst, a diplomat.

However, when they are stressed out, they can...

-  Suffer from analysis paralysis.
-  Can get bogged down in details.
-  Withhold information and become stubborn.
-  Become overly critical -- of others and of yourself.
-  Tell ideas instead of selling ideas.

At their worst, they can be a nit picker, a hoarder, an automaton.

Bazi & The Theory of Personality
The 'C' Personality Types of The DISC Behavioral Model (Part 02)

Have you correctly identified the 10 deities that resemble the 'C' Personality Types?

Quite a number of you have associated it with Resources Deity.   But, personally, I would say that it possesses similar characteristics with the Proper Authority Deity.  You may want to take a look at the quality of Proper Authority again :)

Those with 'C' (& Proper Authority Deity) are energized by...

· Being right
· Having access to information and data
· Having time to investigate the problem, formulate a plan, and carry it through to completion
· Being dealt with in a reserved, business-like manner
· Being recognized and rewarded for specific accomplishments

They lose energy by...

· Dealing with sudden or abrupt change
· Being required to socialize and to disclose personal information
· Lacking the time to process information or to evaluate consequences
· Being criticized by people who don't understand the situation
· Working in a system that lacks quality control or safety regulations

Bazi & The Theory of Personality

The 'C' Personality Types of The DISC Behavioral Model (Part 01)

Just a quick revision, the DISC Behavioral model describes four basic patterns of Personality Types, none of which is better or worse than any of the others.

Very few people are purely one type & most of us are a combination of types. The description that follow is of someone who is almost completely particular personality types.   See if it describes you or someone you know.

Again, remember it describes an extreme form of a behavior that is often much more nuanced.

The 'C' Personality Types => Conscientious, Correct, Careful
If you are a C personality type you are concerned about QUALITY and ACCURACY.

· You want to be right, precise & exact.
· You research every aspect of a situation and consider every eventuality before making a decision.
· You value your reputation for being accurate and logical.
· You like systems and procedures that produce predictable and consistent outcomes.
· You look for what could go wrong.
· You read the fine print. You are a stickler for detail.
· You have very high standards, especially for yourself. You can be a perfectionist.

Want to make an intellectual guesses?  Which of the 10 deities resembles the above-mentioned qualities?

Bazi & The Theory of Personality

Personally, I deeply feel that the bazi is the study of human behaviours & personality.   In which, destiny is deduced based upon our personality.

Pyschology has been one of my favorite subjects during the U-days & even up to now :)     From today onwards, I plan to share with all of you on the Theroy of Personality & its association with characteristics of the respective 10 deities.

Believe it or not, change the perspective of viewing the bazi (temporarily), you would learn more :)

I am going to share with you The DISC Behavioral model.  The model describes four basic patterns of Personality Types as follow :-

The 'D' Personality Types = Direct, Decisive, Drive

The 'I' Personality Types = Influence, Image, Enthusiasm

The 'S' Personality Types = Steady, Stable, Supportive

The 'C' Personality Types = Conscientious, Correct, Careful

Instead of viewing / classifying personality into 10 prominent types (i.e. The Theory of 10 Deities), this model group it into 4 main distinct categories.  * Please take note that "None of which is better or worse than any of the others".

We shall examine it in greater details for the following days....

Intermingling of Proper and Imposing Authority

Intermingling of Proper and Imposing Authority

When both Proper Authority and Imposing Authority appear in the chart, we refer to it as “Intermingling of Proper and Imposing Authority”.

To the DM, does the “Intermingling of Proper and Imposing Authority” bode well or not?

Both the Deities are elements that restrain the DM. To a weak DM, “Intermingling of Proper and Imposing Authority” (unfavourable) is a definite disadvantage. If the DM is strong, he will find it less unfavourable, but it inevitably causes him mental disturbances

Character of “Intermingling of Proper and Imposing Authority”

A weak DM with “Intermingling of Proper and Imposing Authority” in his chart will tend to be erratic in nature and indecisive, thus easily manipulated by others.

Creative Relationship between Proper Authority and Primary Resources

Creative Relationship between Proper Authority and Primary Resources

"Creative Relationship between Proper Authority and Resources"  refers to creative support cycle between Proper Authority, Resources and a weak DM respectively. Such is termed a sentimental creative relationship.

Proper Authority connotes law abiding and emphasis on moralities; Primary Resources connotes gentleness and cultured nature. As such, DMs who have a creative relationship between Proper Authority and Primary Resources have considerable leadership ability, are aboveboard, trustworthy and easily win the respect of others.

Such persons are poor at expressing themselves. They are a little slow-witted, but they are aboveboard, sincere, practical and dignified. They are bestowed with many benefactors throughout their lives and can obtain the recognition and promotion by their superiors and seniors.

If the year and month pillars manifest the creative relationship between Proper Authority and Primary Resources, the DM is sheltered and cared for by parents and ancestors. He is of noble birth and his parents guide him well.

Mutual Destruction of Wealth and Resources

When making deductions from one’s eight characters, we can go about it by the strength of a day or special chart patterns, or analysing the arrangement and positions of the heavenly stems and earthly Branches.

X      DM       CW    RD

Where :  CW stands for Conventional Wealth (represents father)
RD stands for Resources Deity (represents mother)

Both the year and month pillar can represent the Palace of Parents, and the Deities of Resources and Wealth (parents) also coincidentally reside in the Palace of Parents.

Deities of Wealth (Father) and Deities of Resources (Mother) have mutually destructive relationships. As such we deduce that the DM’s parents had a poor relationship; in severe cases, divorce may result.

In actual fact, this DM’s parents have abominable relations and have divorced quite some time ago. Of course, the arrangement of the Deities of Resources and Wealth are insufficient to cause the divorce of the parents. Other destiny analysis factors would also come into play.

Strong Wealth and Authority

“Strong Wealth and Authority” must have the below pre-requisites:

• Strong DM
• Strong Deities of Wealth as favourable elements
• Strong Proper Authority as favourable element

The strong DM has strong Deities of Wealth and Proper Authority who complement each other well, meaning to say that the DM will enjoy wealth and fame.

In general, DMs with strong Deities of Wealth and Proper Authority are born intelligent, systematic, dignified and careful. They manage their finances well, without splurging or being thrifty to a fault.

“Strong Wealth and Authority” connotes that success in career comes early; work, business and official careers are successful.

Weak DM with Abundant Wealth, Beggar in Mansionette

"Weak DM with Abundant Wealth, Beggar in Mansionette" refers to a weak DM with very strong and unfavourable Deities of Wealth.

For those who are “Weak DM(s) with Abundant Wealth”, what characteristics will there be?

Character

Strong Deities of Wealth often have strong desires, but as the DM is weak, lacks confidence and perseverance and is easily manipulated by others. Although he has many aspirations, he lacks the ability to execute them, so money comes and goes and he often faces financial difficulties.

Weak DMs are unable to restrain the Deities of Wealth. Conversely, it becomes a case of being crushed by too much wealth. When big fortunes arrive, it often brings with it lawsuits and calamities.

Recommendations

Weak DMs with strong Deities of Wealth are unsuited to do business. They are better off being salaried employees in finance and economic areas. Enterprises and service sectors are also good choices.

Explicit Talent Coexists with Primary Resources

Explicit Talent Coexists with Primary Resources

The characteristic of Explicit Talent lies in being created and supported by the DM. It connotes expression, elaboration, fluency, excellence, intelligence and innovation etc.

DMs with Explicit Talent are showy and love to seek the limelight. The indomitable and headstrong nature of Explicit Talent causes the DM to be inordinately proud of his own ability, smug and non-conformist. He gets into trouble due to his brashness.

Primary Resources (symbolic of benevolence and acceptance), however, restrains the negativity symbolic of Explicit Talent.  As such, majority of the DMs who have strong Primary Resources as the favourable element (to control the excessive energy of the Explicit Talent) value morality and cultivation; they belong to the righteous.

Explicit Talent Meets Authority, Myriads of Calamity Arise

Explicit Talent Meets Authority, Myriads of Calamity Arise (伤官见官,为祸百端) is a famous term & is usually quoted when examining the marriage for a female.  It also, normally, connotes lawsuits and disputes.

Prerequisites for forming Explicit Talent Meets Authority:

a. Weak DM
b. Overwhelming and unfavourable Explicit Talent restrains Proper Authority’s repression of the DM.
c. Absence of Deities of Wealth
d. Absence of Deities of Resources to suppress Explicit Talent

Character Portrayal of Explicit Talent Meets Authority:

DMs who have Explicit Talent are intelligent, arrogant and portentous. They love haranguing and are slightly materialistic; those with Proper Authority are conformist, value moral discourse, empathetic and always seek to benefit others.

When Explicit Talent is overwhelming and restrains Proper Authority, the DM dislikes being restricted and disregards laws and regulations. He may even scorn laws and behave wilfully, inviting strife.

If the Proper Authority yearly luck cycle descends, this period is particularly susceptible to lawsuits and disputes, hence the saying “Explicit Talent Meets Authority,Myriads of Calamity Arise”.

Under such circumstances, the Deity of Implicit Talent is the ideal favourable element, hence the term “Implicit Talent Subdues Imposing Authority”.

Those who have“Implicit Talent Subdues Imposing Authority”in their Eight Characters:

1. Are eloquent and good at persuasion (characteristic of Deity of Implicit Talent).
2. Loyal but slightly headstrong(characteristic of Deity of Imposing Authority).
3. The restraint by the Deity of Implicit Talent means that the day master is able to control himself. He knows when to fold his sails and understands his own limitations.

Traditionally, scholars viewed Deity of Implicit Talent as an auspicious deity.   It is often seen as Star of Longevity (寿星), Star of Nobility (爵星) and Star of Luck (福星).   Why is that so ?

Star of Longevity  (寿星)

~ Deity of Imposing Authority conflicts with and harms the day master, whereas the Deity of Implicit Talent can restrain the Deity of Imposing Authority and keep him from savaging the day master. The day master is thus able to survive safely and enjoy a longer life.

Star of Luck (福星)

~ Those with Deity of Implicit Talent are imbued with artistic flair, enjoyment of the palate, a comfortable life, a leisurely mentality and good health. It can be said to be the manifestation of good luck and fortune.

Star of Nobility (爵星)

~ Deity of Implicit Talent can creatively support the Deities of Wealth and give rise to affluent living· Deity of Implicit Talent restrains the high-handedness and unreasonableness of the Deity of Imposing Authority and transforms it into the drive to succeed. The day master has an aura of nobility.

Yue Ren & Ri Ren

What is meant by“Yue Ren (月刃)”and“Ri Ren (日刃)”?

In general, when the elements akin to the DM but of different Yin-Yang nature appear in the heavenly stems, we term them“Competitive Deities”; the same elements that appear in the main energies of the earthly branches are termed “Ren (刃)”.

“Ren (刃)”appears at the main energies of different earthly branches, and has the below pseudonyms:

Ren (刃) appears at Month Branch       =  known as Yue Ren (月刃)
Ren (刃) appears at Day Branch           =  known as Ri Ren (日刃)

Literally, the Chinese character 刃 refers to a sharp blade that can inflict harm & damage (which also known as the 'Sword').

It is actually the Star of Aggression (羊刃),  connoting intensity and aggression,

Together, the Star of Aggression (Yang Ren) is a compelling compound star, which encompasses very resolute and destructive potential. Whether it is good or bad will have to bank on how other latent conflicts or unfavourable factors within the four-pillar chart shall affect it.

Like a double-edged sword, the Star of Aggression may harm others but it can also hurt the one who wields it.

Jian Lu Disassociates from Ancestors, Zhuan Lu Weakens Wife (PART 2)

I have mentioned it yesterday that the aforementioned scenarios seem disadvantageous to the DM, do not be over-alerted by such verse.   We need to consider the strength and the favourableness of the Amiable Deity (or Lu) in the chart.

If the Amiable Deity (or Lu) is overwhelming and also an unfavourable element, the aforementioned scenario will occur; conversely, if the Amiable Deity (or Lu) is the favourable element, the situation varies greatly.

Jian Lu Disassociates from Ancestors (建禄离祖) i.e. Amiable Deity appears at the month branch

When Unfavourable

- Will leave ancestors, parents or have poor relations with seniors
- Will leave hometown and settle down elsewhere

Favourable

- Resolute, independent
- Possesses spirit of autonomy and perseverance

Based on the above understanding, you can deduce the probable events and applies it to the other part of the verse.

Inference :

- Will leave ancestors, parents or have poor relations with seniors
- Will leave hometown and settle down elsewhere

Mantra 2    Zhuan Lu Weakens Wife (专禄伤妻)

Explanation :   Amiable Deity appears at the Day Branch

Inference :

- Poor marital relations between DM and spouse
- If severe, wife may be harmed

The aforementioned scenarios seem disadvantageous to the DM.   But, is it true?

Star of Calamity

All along, people view Secondary Resources as a star of calamity.  But, have you ever wonder why is that so?

To gain a full comprehension, we need to have a good understanding of the inter-relationship between the Secondary Resources Deity and the rest.

Secondary Resources Deity diminishes Proper Authority Deity that represents fame & reputation ;
Secondary Resources Deity restrains Implicit Talent that represents enjoyment.

All in all, the existence of Secondary Resources Deity is 'doing harm' (i.e. reducing the energy of ) to both the deities.   This resulted in the creation of negative image to Secondary Resources Deity.

In fact, the Ten Deities are never inherently good or bad, the key lies in whether they can serve a balancing function for the chart.

Hunt of the Xiao Shen

The studies of Chinese Metaphysics (including Bazi) is about achieving & maintaining 'BALANCE' between various different forces such as Yin vs Yang.

Too much or Too less is not preferred as it causes IMBALANCE.

Accordingly, an overwhelming Secondary Resources (thus unfavourable) is termed as “Xiao Shen” (枭神).

You may be wondering what is Xiao Shen & how it is related to our destiny & the relationship with others.

Legend has it that the Xiao (枭) is a nocturnal bird that preys on its own kind, sometimes even devouring its own young when its hunt is unfruitful. As such, the presence of the Xiao (an overwhelming and unfavourable Secondary Resources) is disadvantageous to the DM’s young children.

Bazi Daily - 07/03/2010

We have touched on the subject of “Overwhelming Presence of Resources Brings Illness” (印多为病) from the perspective of 10 Deities.

Also, we have discussed the meaning of “Benevolent Mother Destroys Child” (慈母多败儿).  Today, I shall further introduce the related concept by quotning the ancient destiny analysis tome ~ “Yuan Li Fu” (元理赋).

Yuan Li Fu has a very good description on the concept "Benevolent Mother Destroys Child" from the perspective of Five Elements :-

  • Metal depends on Earth for creation, Abundant Earth buries Metal (土能生金,土多金埋);
  • Earth depends on Fire for creation, Abundant Fire burns Earth (火能生土,火多土焦);
  • Fire depends on Wood for creation, Abundant Wood stokes Fire (木能生火,木多火焚);
  • Wood depends on Water for creation, Abundant Water Floats Wood (水能生木,水多木漂);
  • Water depends on Metal for creation, Abundant Metal fouls Water

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations.

Why the saying that “Overwhelming Presence of Resources Brings Illness” (印多为病)?

The weak DM rejoices at his creative relationship with Primary Resources.

However, should the Deity’s presence be overwhelming, it will overpower the DM, making him repressed and defenseless. It may be said, “The benevolent mother destroys her child (慈母多败儿)”, that an overwhelming presence of Primary Resources contrarily brings illness.

As for “Overwhelming Presence of Resources Brings Illness”, one generally displays the following disposition:

  • Clumsy and torpid reactions
  • Depressed and unhappy
  • Vexes self, prone to insomnia
  • Pessimistic

Bazi Daily - 05/03/2010

From today onwards, I shall be sharing with all of you some of the definitions pertaining to the terminologies of 10  deities.

What is “Primary Resources Mitigates Imposing Authority” (一仁化煞)?

The Chinese character 'Ren (仁)' refers to Primary Resources.

As we all know, Imposing Authority attacks / conquers the DM.  But, with the presence of Primary Resources, the chance for Imposing Authority to restrain the DM is removed when the former creates a mitigating factor in the form of Primary Resources.

Primary Resources can be said to have reconciled the strength of Imposing Authority’s attack, henceforth the saying “Primary Resources Mitigates Imposing Authority”.

The Ideal situation is where the Primary Resources is near to the DM. If the former is too distant from the latter, results are limited.

Question :-

In the event where the Imposing Authority Deity (i.e. Geng metal) is unfavorable, which of the Resources Deity (illustrate 1 or 2) can better protecting the DM?

FOOD FOR THOUGH

Below best describe the Concept of Yin & Yang.

ECCLESIASTES:

For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.

Literal Translation & Interpretation :-

Thrifty is considered to be one of the virtues to Chinese.  But, the line between thrifty & a miser (or penny-pincher) can be undifferentiable.

From the perspective of the theory of Bazi, we can differentiate the thrifty from a miser easily :)

Thrifty Personality :-
~ where the Conventional Wealth is favorable.  They are practical & prudent in term of financial planning.

A Miser :-
~ where the Wealth Deity is trapped into the Wealth Pool (财库)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery.
There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will,
and the solution comes to you and you don't know how or why.

Literal Translation & Interpretation:-

Who is the born fighter that can easily be engaged in the fight (right or wrong) ?

Yes, you are right!  These are normally the persons that are extremely energetic (physically), impatient & aggressive.

With the understanding of this characteristics, we should be able to identify, with ease, the parameter of a fightefr :-

~ Imposing Authority      =  Aggressive
~ Strong Fire                   =  Impatient & non-exhaustive physical energy
~ Metal                           =  weapon, attack

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love
than
to be a success at something you hate.

I have extracted & covered some of the important information from the 'Ji Shan Pian' (《继善篇》).  Below is the full version for your pleasure reading :-

是以五行不可偏枯、务禀中和之气;
