Bazi Daily - 16/10/2009

Incomplete Bazi .... Complete Story

Students used to complain that bazi contains too little information for analysis. Indeed, it is extremely difficult for any 'untrained' person to decipher a person's destiny based on 8 simple & yet complex Chinese characters. Accordingly, there claimed that bazi is over simplified.

However, they have overlooked the fact that one of the essences of Yi Jing (易经) is 'SIMPLICITY' (简易).

Read a bazi chart for a lady today during a Qi Gong practise session. Though she had learned bazi for quite sometimes, but is unable to recall her full bazi chart :-(

Below is the information that she could furnished:-

Female chart (坤造) :-

X 丁 X 庚
寅 X 寅 戌

What 'story' can you tell from her chart?

1) Ding born in Yin at night time - Candle fire or starlight. Strong DM. Rooted. Useful God = Water. Chart should not see Bing in Heavenly stem.
2) Attractive and talented. Ability to influence others. Respectable, confident, compassionate, and secure. Person with strong aspirations.
3) Xin-Xu combo – extrovert; focused on external world. Wu completes Fire Frame.
4) Close to mother and children. Ding likes to care for her resources.
5) Wealth acquired through work. Likely holds a position of responsibility.

It seems that you are also a 'high hand' (高手 - meaning expert) in the subject :)

Keen to find out more about you!

1) Useful God = Water.

I hold a different view on the selection of favorable element.

By saying that, we have to admit that the information is inadequate for such evaluation.

2) Attractive and talented. Ability to influence others. Respectable, confident, compassionate, and secure. Person with strong aspirations.

Compassionate = Yes
Secure = No! In fact, strong sense of insecurity.

3) extrovert

Would like to use a term (that I learned it recently from a secondary school student) to sum up the character of the DM:

"Passive Aggression".

4) Close to mother and children. Ding likes to care for her resources.

Well said!

Dear Master Leong,

Thanks for your feedback. I am far from being an expert – many, many more hours to practice/learn.

Ideal Ding DM is intense, steady, and ongoing. Needs constant supply of fuel (Jia). However, Jia needs to be chopped to generate fuel.

DM born in Yin month. Jia is abundant. Metal = Primary Useful God (also present in chart).

1)DM = Passive Aggressive? Is your observation based on reasoning that Ding is gentle/attractive on outside (passive) but, once ignited, can also be aggressive (viscous and merciless)? If not, how?

2)Does strong Primary/Direct Resource (Zheng Yin) = Passive Aggressive

3)DM = Insecure? Is there Bing in full chart?

4)DM born in Yin hour = Difficulty controlling Metal (Wealth) = Not much money. Would you agree?

Best Regards,
Sanjay

Hi, Sanjay!

Metal = Primary Useful God

Personally, I would consider Fire as the favorable element.

Generally speaking, there is a misconception that strong resources = lead to strong DM.

However, don't forget that when the wood is too strong, it would suffocate the fire. How can the fire be strong?

1)DM = Passive Aggressive? ... Ding is gentle/attractive on outside (passive) but, once ignited, can also be aggressive

I like your description on the characteristic of the Ding fire :-)

My reasoning, however, was based on the presence of both Primary Resources (正印) & Explicit Talent (伤官) in the bazi chart.

Dear Master Leong,

Thank you. I see my mistake :) Fire is at Stage-1 in the month of Yin and excessive Wood only suffocates it! I was being too mechanical when looking merely at the season.

This is a weak DM. Fire would indeed be favorable. Some of my earlier deductions are therefore incorrect. I stand corrected. The chart is a bit tricky :)

Sanjay

Does your second book expound on the 10 Dieties/Gods, their mutual interaction(s), and factors that increase/decrease their relative contribution in BaZi analysis? Perchance, do you have a soft copy of its table of contents?

I love the fact that you have included real case studies in your book. I'll order it from your web site. By way of suggestion, could you consider selling your books on Amazon (US) as well. Are you planning to also write an advance-level book :)

Thank you.

Dear Master Leong,

I visited Wayonet’s website. Is there a reason why they would want to charge US$50.00 to ship a book that sells for S$58.95? Seems pretty exorbitant when I'd like it shipped only by ordinary mail! Please let me know if your book is also sold through other (international) online outlets? I very much look forward to reading it.

Best Regards,
Sanjay

It is to cover the cost of shipment :-(

Dear Miss (or Mr?) Anonymous,

Welcome to the blog! It would be great if can get to know more about you :-)

>just a guess.. is it one of the above three dates?

As it was merely a casual talk with the DM, I have not ask her about the Day Pillar. But, I feel that 2nd bazi seems to fit her character well.

Hi Master Goh,

I'm from Penang. Great books! Very enlightening. I bought both of your books from Kinokuniya in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur.

You should consider selling your
books in other book stores as well.

Dear Master Goh,

Sorry to come back to this chart. If the following does indeed represent the person discussed in your case study, is this chart not a Follow Strength type (Zong Qiang Ge)?

壬 丁 戊 庚
寅 卯 寅 戌

Wood is the Useful God. Fire is favorable. Metal is Annoying God. Earth and Water are unfavorable. That is to say, any stem/branch that weakens the DM is unfavorable?

Guan Leong, GOH said...

Sanjay,

What is your understanding on the term 'Follow Strength Type (从强格)'?

Follow Strength Type (or referred to as 'Passive Chart Style' in my book) refers to a situation whereby the DM is extremely weak, so much so that the DM has to follow 'give up' his/her own identity and follow other elements.

For instance, if the DM is Fire, in order to qualify as a Follow Strength Type, there must be no presence of fire & wood. Instead, Earth, Metal & Water has to be very strong that it become the primary energy of the chart.

Sanjay Dua said...

Dear Master Goh,

Thank you for indulging my ignorance.

I have been using the “Follow Leader” (Forsaken Fellow) definition to describe the scenario you have mentioned.

Example:
Ji Bing Yi Geng
Chou Shen You Xu

Resource = 0; Companion element strength = very weak. Leader (Primary Qi) = Useful God = Metal (Wealth), Earth = Favorable, Fire = Unfavorable, Wood = Annoying God, Water = Neutral God

I have been using the term “Follow Strength” to refer to cases where the chart and DM are very strong, and resources exceed companion elements in strength. Any element that weakens the DM is unfavorable.

Example:
Geng Ren Geng Gui
Zi Zi Shen You

Useful God = Metal; Water = Favorable; Wood, Earth, Fire = Unfavorable. In this case, the DM follows the Metal trend (resource = strength)

I had categorized the case study example into the “Follow Strength” category:

Case Study Example:
Ren Ding Wu Geng
Yin Mao Yin Xu

Useful God = Wood; Fire = Favorable; Earth, Water, Metal = Unfavorable. In this case, the DM follows the Wood trend (resource = strength).

Best,
Sanjay

Sanjay,

During my teaching, students show strong interests in trying their very best in evaluating the strength, figuring out the category types.....

To me, however, put it aside temporarily and focus on analysing the character & personality, health aspect first.

Re-visit the topics (strength, clashes, category types, etc) only when we've gained adequate exposure and accumulated sufficient practical experiences. It would be more fruitful.

By saying so, you need to review on your understanding of the term 'follow strength'.

I have been using the term “Follow Strength” to refer to cases where the chart and DM are very strong, and resources exceed companion elements in strength. Any element that weakens the DM is unfavorable.

The correct term to use is DOMINEERING CHART STYLE, not Follow Strength :-)

Thanks Master Goh. I will follow your advice. I also need to read your book(s) to correlate these definitions.

Out of curiosity, are there no standard definitions across various schools? Sure would make learning a lot easier :)

Again, thanks a lot for your guidance. Have a wonderful day!

Guan Leong, GOH said...

Sanjay,

> are there no standard definitions across various schools?

No, the definition & the criterion used to evaluate the category types are quite standard, with little variation :-)

However, name used to describe the chart pattern styles varies from masters to masters.

Thank you for sharing master Goh. I agree that our basic must be strong first before attempting to the next level. As i've been there before. It is really frustrating to start getting a lot of input and different schools etc and it is very open to own interpretation~ as my basic is not good yet...i lost myself somewhere...
Anyway, back to this basic thing. Earth attack water (shang guan jian guan). Did this lady encounter legal dispute? Or perhaps 'water' related ailments in 2009? Ji + Ren...muddy water, perhaps growth somewhere?

Guan Leong, GOH said...

It was merely a casual conversation with that lady. I do not have any idea on the legal dispute that she might have or might not have :-(

But given that there is a strong presence of Yin wood (i.e. the Primary Resource Deity), I would say that the chances of legal entanglement is not quite likely.

However, it is possible to have suffered from water or earth related ailments in 2009 due to the polluted earth & water!
