I think is one indicator maybe when there is a clash and/or combo that arrives on the LP or AP against the DB, Spouse Palace.

From Julie's example,
If the spouse star is secondary chi in the spouse palace, wouldn't the clash (like lugrey said), reveal the spouse star instead?
Say if a Yang Metal Female DM, with a Xu at spouse branch, a clash with a luck pillar like Chen, hence Chen and Xu clash will reveal the Sub chi instead?

How about the following situations :
1) the DM is combined with the adjacent HS (the Proper Authority);
2) the Spouse Earthly Branch combined with the 10-year luck pillar and form a spouse deity?

We used to heard that certain energy would reveal as a result of clashes between branches.
I am quite reserve on this methodology as I am yet to find concrete & complete theory decribing the above.
I seldom use the above theory in my studies.

Oops.... my apology :)
In the first scenario where the DM is combined with the Proper Authority Deity, the context of the above text does not apply. In this situation, the bonding or the affinity between the DM & the Spouse is strong.
If favorable = bonding is strong & good.
If unfaovorable = bonding is strong, but the relationship is poor.
As for the second question, that indicate the appearance possible relationship during that period of time :)

1) If I may follow up on this interesting posting, if DM (yin fire) combines with Proper Authority Deity (yang water) on the HS Month column = affinity and favorable combination mentioned above. However, what is more important in evaluating marriage - if at the same time, spouse palace element is not favorable? for example Yin fire DM, born in Dog month have Spouse palace as Ox? How should it be interpreted? there is affinity but still some trouble?
2) What does it mean if Proper Authority Deity is on HS of one column but rooted in EB of another? Example (Ren) is on HS month column and sits on Dog but rooted in EB of the year (water pig). Is there any significance?
