Bazi Daily - 06/07/2010

Today, I shall begin to introduce the characteristics of Special Chart Pattern.

Characteristics of Amiable Chart Style (建禄格):

The individual is full of confidence about life and has his own opinions as well as ideas.

With firm beliefs, he stays focused to achieve his goals through sheer diligence. He is a hard person to persuade or influence too due to his strong sense of pride. Thus he will not surrender or give in unless the other party proves to be more capable.

Characteristics of Aggressive Chart Style (羊刃格):

The individual is determined. He is highly competitive and does not concede defeat readily.

Tough and decisive, his combative spirit gives him a proud aura. He is flexible and opportunistic. Nonetheless, his contradictory behaviour and lack of emotional control can offend others easily.

Hi Master Goh,

I came across the concept of 'enneagram', and was wondering if it contains strong parallels with Bazi understanding. Maybe Western systems have came up with a theory that comes to the same conclusion as Chinese systems?

"The Enneagram is one of the newest personality systems in use, and emphasizes psychological motivations."

I have tried to equate the Types of the Enneagram with Bazi Structures. Wonder if you agree?

Type 1: Reformer = JieCai / BiJian

Type 2: Helper = Zheng Yin

Type 3: Motivator = Shang Guan

Type 4: Romantic = Shi Shen

Type 5: Thinker = Pian Yin

Type 6: Loyalist = Zheng Cai

Type 7: Enthusiast = Pian Cai

Type 8: Challenger = Pian Guan

Type 9: Peacemaker = Zheng Guan

The full type descriptions can be found at the following:-

http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/descript.asp

&

http://www.9types.com/writeup/enneagram.html#intro

Wonder how you feel about the parallels; do you think the overlap between this theory and bazi is just mild and coincidental, or could there be a deeper relationship?

Andy,

Thanks for the information :) I have read it & have acquired some of the books as well.

As for the efforts you have put in to equate the Types of the said theory to 10 deities is commendable :)

I agreed with most of them with the exception of below :-

Type 1: Reformer = JieCai / BiJian

I would deem that Qi Sha is most appropriate.

Type 3: Motivator = Shang Guan (on the condition that Shang Guan is favorable)

Type 6: Loyalist = Zheng Cai

I would associate it with Zheng Guan.

Type 7: Enthusiast = Pian Cai
(+ Qi Sha + Jie Cai)

Type 8: Challenger = Pian Guan

(When favorable, Shang Guan can be a Challenger, to challenge Status quo)

Type 9: Peacemaker = Zheng Guan
(+ Zheng Yin)

The above are just some of my personal opinions which may not be totally right.

Master Goh,

Haha, seems that the 'exceptions' are more than the 'agreements' :)
You are indeed very diplomatic with your words :)

I admit there are many shaky bits in my efforts, especially saying type 9 = Zheng Guan.

But the more i study it, the more i find that the various characteristics of each of the 10 bazi structures are actually scattered among the 9 types. For example, Type 1 has the high morality and fastidiousness (niao) of Zheng Guan, but also the anger of QiSha. Meanwhile, the need for security in Zheng Guan ends up in Type 6 while his peace-loving nature is in Type 9.

Well, maybe trying to place the 10 into the 9 is a fool's errand, like trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

But nevertheless, I believe a concurrent study of both topics will be helpful in shedding more light on the mysteries of each :)

Master Goh,

When I first came across the subject of bazi, i read some books which described the same elements as the DM as 'Friends'. The description is that this person, who has many amiable/competitive, will be someone very sociable with a lot of friends and will be a top networker.

However, after coming into contact with the classics, and also your books as well as some videos from Taiwan, the description of same elements seemed to be more toward 'will-power' and stubbornness, and even lonesomeness.

Is this difference due to different schools of bazi? Or are both correct and can be reconciled?

Personally, from analyzing my own chart as well as friends' charts, I find the self-belief theory more correct than 'networking' theory.

Andy,

Both are correct :) The only different is the degree of strength.

If the DM is weak & both the Amiable and Competitive Deities are favorable, it could mean good interpersonal skill.

However, when the DM becomes too strong, stubbornness becomes one of his/her distinct personalities. He/she still have a lot of friends (on surface). But, the friendship could not last for too long :(

Hallo Master Goh,
my name is Elena and I write from Italy :)
I bought your two books and I have so much questions to do!

My first question is on Common and Special Chart Style...
I don't understand if my Bazi Chart is an Implicit Talent Chart Style, or a Special Amiable Chart Style or both!

This is my Bazi:

Ji Geng Ren Jia
Mao Xu Shen Yin

Thanks! and have a nice day :)
