Star of Aid
(天乙贵人 Tian Yi Gui Ren)
According to legends, Tian Yi is a deity held in high esteem, which all demons and ghouls fear. Thence since the beginning of time, all destiny-related scrolls and publications have regarded her to be the luckiest of all stars that resolves most predicaments. Therefore, it is believed that individuals who carry the Star of Aid in their eight characters will always receive assistance and promotion wherever they go.
First of all, let's examine how do we identify the Star of Aid :-

We could learn a lot from crayons;
some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright,
some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box.

Morning Master Goh,
Since we talk about Shen Sha now, can i ask if you will be talking about the following
- identifying if Shen Sha is favor or not Favor to DM.
- Shen Sha inside bazi, Luck pillar, Annual pillar.
Master Goh,
What if the the Star of Aid is a secondary chi? does it still help?
or the star of aid appears in the luck pillars? will it be effective?
Regards,
Yumi
Wei Kee,
Identification of favorability of the element(s) is considered as one of the fundamental skills that we need to possess. Hence, I will not touch on how to identify if Shen Sha is favorable or not. I will only share with you on the concept instead.
As long as you are able to grasp the concepts well, it wouldn't be any problem in applying the same principles and doctrine to LP and Annual Pillar.
Yumi,
Don't complicate yourself by considering or linking the secondary energy with the Shen Sha. Shen Sha refers to the Main Energy.
Of course, it is effective if it is appeared in the LP.
Master Goh,
Sometime the Shen Sha name give us the false feeling without knowing the Favor or unfaor. Example "Star of Aid" sound good, but actually we have to see if this element is favor or unfavor to the DM.
Is that correct what i mention?

Wei Kee
Wei Kee,
Yes, you are right to say that :)
Hi Master Goh,
Is star of aid useless when it happens to be an unfavourable element? or is it harmful when it is an unfavourable?
Regards,
Tee
Master Goh
A natal chart has 2 Stars of Aid situated in the Mth and Day Branches based on Day Stem and Year Stem as reference. Would the benefits of these stars be reduced or destroyed if :
1) The Day Branch and Mth Branch form a 1/2 combination. The Mth Branch is also a Void Star.
2) The Day Branch and Hour Branch form a "Harm".
Hope you could give your comments on above.

Re : earlier comment
For avoidance of doubt, "1/2" means half.

Re : 1st comment
Just in case my comment is a bit confusing.
The Day and Mth Branches form a half combination and the Day Branch also form a "Harm" with Hour Branch in the same natal chart.

Tee,
I would think that it depends on the degree of severity. If the Star of Aid happened to be the unfavorable element, the effect to the DM is (of course) detrimental.
If the strength of such element is 'manageable' unfavorable, I don't think it would do much harm to the DM.
Star,
First of all, it was beleived (theoretically) that the combo could dissolve the impact of Void Star. Hence, with the combo mentioned in your 1st query, we can safety ignore the impact of the Void Star.
As for the impact (beneficial or detrimental) of such combo, it depends on resultant element that emerged as a result of such combo. If it is unfavorable, it can be undesirable.
Harm or clashes reduces the impact of good quality of Star of Aid.
